Interpreting Tarot Cards
Interpreting Tarot cards is, as you might expect, quite difficult and requires much practice. So is there an easy way? A short cut? yes - by focusing only on the Major Arcana cards. What are the major cards I hear you ask? The standard tarot deck, whatever imagery is used to depict the symbols, is 78 cards in 2 sections, namely the major and minor arcanas.

A tarot deck of cards usually consists of 78 and is divided into two separate categories, the major and the minor arcana (arcana which means closed or secret). In the major arcana there are 21 individual cards, referred to as trumps, and the fool card. The minor arcana has the remaining 56 cards consisting of 10 cards numbered from Ace to ten in four different suits. A tarot deck of cards, usually includes suits with batons, wands, rods, or staves; cups, swords, and coins, disks, or pentacles. As well, there are four court cards, or face cards including the page or knave, queen, knight and king in each of the same four suits.

The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards. They represent in sequence a journey through life from birth to enlightenment. Major Arcana cards, also known as Trumps, point toward significant issues. A high number of Major Arcana cards in a spread may indicate that it is a time of importance in the questioner's life.

The Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards and is divided into four suits consisting of pentacles, cups, wands and swords. The cards in each suit are numbered ace through ten as well as four court cards in each suit consisting of page, knight, queen and king.   They represent the energy, emotions and activities of our daily lives.
